How This Site Handles Plan Prices

This page used to state a negative: no ChatGPT or Codex plan price appeared anywhere on this site. That changed with the October refresh. The site now shows OpenAI's US list prices for every ChatGPT plan that has one — dated, sourced and checked against OpenAI's own pricing page like every other figure here. What hasn't changed is the part that protects readers: no calculator assumes what you pay.

Why the policy changed

The original reason was that no authoritative source printed a plan price. That isn't the case now: OpenAI's Codex pricing page lists a US-dollar price for each plan and names its Pro tiers after those prices. Leaving the numbers out didn't make the site more accurate — it just made readers look them up elsewhere, without a date or a caveat attached. So the prices are now here, in the tables above and on Codex plans, prices and usage limits, with the date they were last checked beside them.

What a list price is, and isn't

A list price is what OpenAI's pricing page prints in US dollars. It isn't necessarily what you pay. ChatGPT's own pricing page shows prices per visitor, by region and currency; OpenAI's pages don't say whether the listed figures include tax; Business is cheaper per user when billed annually; and Enterprise and Edu are sold through OpenAI's sales team with no published price. Plans also change at an unchanged price — the middle Pro tier reopened to new subscribers with a smaller included allowance than before — which is why this site lists what each plan includes alongside what it costs, and re-reads both at every fact refresh.

What the tools do

The subscription vs API calculator still starts empty and asks for the price you actually pay. The list prices sit beside it as one-tap starting points, so you can begin from a familiar figure and replace it with your own, but the calculator never fills one in on its own. The Codex credits calculator likewise never assumes what a credit costs you: OpenAI publishes credit rates per million tokens, but says the price of a credit depends on your plan or agreement.

Why this is still the honest version

A calculator with a plausible default looks finished and is silently wrong for many readers; one that asks is a little more work and never wrong in that way. Publishing the list price next to it, with its date and its limits spelled out, gives readers the reference point they were looking for without pretending it's universal.
